🇹🇭 Thailand: visa and tax day limits
Ready-made rules count your days against the limits the law names. They don't decide your visa or residency status, and many laws add conditions a day count can't see.

What the rules say
Short-term stays
Thailand admits visitors under a visa exemption for many nationalities, and under tourist visas otherwise. The permitted length depends on nationality and on how you arrive, and has changed several times — most recently in September 2026. Repeat visa-free entries, especially over land, may be limited. Check the current rules before travelling.

Extensions and longer stays
Stays can often be extended at an immigration office, and Thailand offers longer-term routes aimed at remote workers and retirees. Each carries its own conditions.

Tax residency
Thailand treats a person present for 180 days or more in a calendar year, counted in total rather than consecutively, as tax resident. A Stay Limit rule of at most 179 days per calendar year can track it.
