Tax

Connecticut: more than 183 days (statutory resident)

Up to 183 days in Connecticut each calendar year

About This Rule

Counts your days in Connecticut each calendar year, the tax year for most people. If Connecticut is not your domicile, you are a resident if you maintain a permanent place of abode in the state and are there for an aggregate of more than 183 days of the tax year, unless you are in active service in the US Armed Forces. If Connecticut is your domicile, you are a resident unless you meet a narrow exception, such as the 30-day test for people who live elsewhere. This tracks the day count only and doesn't decide your residency.

Also Requires

  • A permanent place of abode in Connecticut

Ready-made rules count your days against the limits the law names. They don't decide your visa or residency status, and many laws add conditions a day count can't see.
