Tax

Louisiana: more than 6 months (resident)

Up to 181 days (about 6 months) in Louisiana each calendar year

About This Rule

Counts your days in Louisiana each calendar year, the tax year for most people. You are a resident if you spend in the aggregate more than six months of the tax year in Louisiana; the law doesn't convert months to days, and the shortest six months is 181 days, so this warns on day 182. You are also a resident whatever your day count if Louisiana is your domicile or you maintain a permanent place of abode there. This tracks the day count only and doesn't decide your residency.

Ready-made rules count your days against the limits the law names. They don't decide your visa or residency status, and many laws add conditions a day count can't see.
