Tax

Maryland: 183 days (statutory resident)

Under 183 days in Maryland each calendar year

About This Rule

Counts your days in Maryland each calendar year, the tax year for most people. If Maryland is not your domicile, you are a resident if you maintain a place of abode in the state for more than 6 months of the tax year and are physically present for 183 days or more. Any part of a day counts, but a continuous stay of 24 hours or less counts as only one day, which this count doesn't adjust for. This tracks the day count only and doesn't decide your residency.

Also Requires

  • A place of abode in Maryland for more than 6 months of the year

Ready-made rules count your days against the limits the law names. They don't decide your visa or residency status, and many laws add conditions a day count can't see.
