Tax

Vermont: more than 183 days (statutory resident)

Up to 183 days in Vermont each calendar year

About This Rule

Counts your days in Vermont each calendar year, the tax year for most people. If you maintain a permanent place of abode in Vermont and are present in the state for more than an aggregate of 183 days of the tax year, you qualify for residency for the part of the year you maintain it. If Vermont is your domicile, you qualify for residency for the part of the year it is your domicile. This tracks the day count only and doesn't decide your residency.

Also Requires

  • A permanent place of abode in Vermont

Ready-made rules count your days against the limits the law names. They don't decide your visa or residency status, and many laws add conditions a day count can't see.
